Top 10 most beautiful beaches in Germany

Germany may not be the first country that comes to mind when you think of stunning beaches. But contrary to popular belief, this diverse country actually has some beautiful beaches that are perfect for a relaxing vacation or day trip. From the North Sea to the Baltic Sea-here are the 10 most beautiful beaches in Germany that you should definitely visit:

1. Sylt, Schleswig-Holstein

Sylt-also called "the queen of the North Sea"-is one of Germany's most famous islands and is home to some of the country's most beautiful beaches. With its fine sand, dune landscapes and deep blue sea, Sylt offers a picturesque setting that will delight beach lovers. Along the west coast stretches an approximately 40 km long sandy beach with enough space for sun worshippers. Wenningstedt beach is particularly suitable for families, while the beaches "Samoa" or "Sansibar" are known for their white, fine sand. A highlight is the famous "Red Cliff" near Kampen, which offers a breathtaking sunset.

2. Lübeck Bay, Schleswig-Holstein/Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

On the Bay of Lübeck in Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, you will find three of the most beautiful beaches in Germany: Timmendorfer Strand, Scharbeutzer Strand and Grömitzer Strand. The southern beach of Pelzerhaken offers fine sand and is not crowded. Lighthouses and the pier in Scharbeutz invite you to take a walk. In Sierksdorf you can enjoy fresh fish.

3. Usedom, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

Usedom offers a 45 km coastline with some of the most beautiful beaches in Germany. Here you can not only enjoy the sun and the sea, but also explore the impressive coastal landscape. The imperial resorts, amber resorts and Baltic resorts are well known and offer something for every type of vacation - from horseback riding to cycling, from wellness to culinary delights. The small seaside resort of Zempin, one of the amber spas, is especially suitable for those seeking peace and quiet.

4. St. Peter-Ording, Schleswig-Holstein

This beach on the North Sea coast is a paradise for beach lovers and water sports enthusiasts. With its wide sandy beach, pile dwellings and characteristic beach chairs, St. Peter-Ording offers a unique atmosphere. The 12 km long beach is shallow and at low tide you can walk far until you reach the water. Besides the main bathing spots, there are also quieter sections. Special features, such as the sulfur spring and the possibility to park your car directly at the beach, make this beach a unique experience.

5. Amrum, Schleswig-Holstein

Amrum is the tenth largest island in Germany. The wide sandy beach, the dune landscapes and the quiet atmosphere make Amrum an ideal place to escape the stress of everyday life. The Kniepsand in the west of the island merges seamlessly into the dune world of Amrum. The extraordinary mixture of natural landscapes makes the flora and fauna of the island unique.

6. Hiddensee, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

Hiddensee is a car-free, idyllic island with a long sandy beach on the west coast. The beach sections at Vitte, Kloster and Neuendorf are guarded and regularly cleaned. Especially the area near Vitte is popular, as it falls shallowly into the sea and is well suited for families. There is also a nudist section.

7. Juist, Lower Saxony

Juist in Lower Saxony is one of the most idyllic islands in northern Germany. The island, which is about 17 km long, offers a long white sandy beach that invites you to take a walk. Since driving is not allowed on Juist, about 100 horses provide transportation, making the stay relaxing and restful.

8. Rügen, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

Rügen, the largest island in Germany, has an impressive coastline with a variety of beaches. There are about 60 km of long beaches, magnificent national parks and idyllic countryside. The Baltic resort of Binz on the chalk coast is home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ancient Beech Forests and offers some of the most beautiful beaches on the Baltic Sea. Rügen is a sunny region and offers pleasant temperatures already in May.

9. Darß, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

An insider tip for one of the most beautiful beaches in Germany is the West Beach on the Darß Peninsula on the Baltic Sea. This beach is located in the national park "Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft" and has been awarded several times as one of the most beautiful beaches in Germany and Europe. The special atmosphere of this beach is created by its remote location directly on the Darß forest. The fine sandy beach stretches for about 14 kilometers and invites to walks, sunbathing and refreshing swims in the water.

10. Warnemünde, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

The Baltic beaches near Rostock in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are also among the most beautiful beaches in Germany. Warnemünde beach is up to 80 meters wide and offers fine sand. The seaside resort of Graal-Müritz is ideal for those seeking relaxation and combines sea and forest air. In spring, the colorful Rhododendron Park Festival takes place there.

Whether on the North Sea or the Baltic Sea, in Schleswig-Holstein or Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany offers an amazing variety of beautiful beaches. From picturesque dune landscapes to long sandy beaches and unspoiled nature, there is something for everyone to discover. So pack your beach bag and discover the beauty of the German coast.
