We take ecological responsibility
Transparency holds great importance for us at MYMARINI. Throughout the entire production and supply chain, our focus is on our ecological and social responsibility, from materials to production and resource usage. We believe that you have the right to know about the environmental impact of the clothing you purchase. That's why we intend to assess the ecological footprint of all our products, with a particular focus on measuring CO₂ emissions and water consumption. This will enable us to disclose the environmental effects and resource usage of our company.
Assessment of our ecological footprint
Starting in April 2023, we began working with Made2Flow to produce life cycle assessments for our styles. Made2Flow GmbH is a company that applies the Life Cycle Assessment method according to ISO 14040 and the PEFCR guidelines. For this purpose, we provided Made2Flow with all the necessary data such as contacts to supplying companies, materials, quantities, etc. in order to have a personalized result determined for our swimwear. We started with an analysis of our CLASSICS Collection, as this collection is a permanent component of our product range. We then analyzed SWIM APPAREL, another Core Collection that's available all year round. Our other collections will follow in the future.
After creating a basic framework for our life-cycle assessments with Made2Flow, as of July 2024 we are now working with Carbonfact to record the carbon footprint of all our products in detail. Carbonfact helps us to identify emission hotspots along the entire value chain of our products and plan targeted measures to reduce and offset them, enabling us to improve our ecological footprint over the long term as well as communicate it transparently.
Our ecological footprint at the product level
For our SWIM APPAREL and CLASSICS Collections, we provide information on water consumption and CO₂ equivalents for each product to make our ecological footprint fully transparent. The 360 liters of water used during the production of the SEABODY from the CLASSICS Collection are roughly equivalent to a 40-minute shower, while the CO₂ equivalents of 5.19 kg produced can be compared to a 40-kilometer journey by car.
A life cycle assessment, also known as a life cycle assessment (LCA), is a standardized method for calculating the impact of a product, process, or service on the environment. LCA is a scientific approach to assessing the environmental impact of products, processes, or services. LCA collects extensive data on environmental impacts, such as emissions from energy production, solid and liquid wastes, and the production of raw materials. Environmental indicators use measurable variables to describe complex environmental problems. These indicators include greenhouse gas emissions, water use, and land use.
By preparing these life cycle assessments, we obtain more accurate and comprehensive information about the environmental impact of our products along our supply chain. In the medium term, this may lead to insights into where there is potential for optimization. On this basis, targeted measures can be taken to achieve our ambition of groundwater and climate neutrality. MYMARINI aims to be 100% groundwater neutral by 2025 and 100% climate neutral by 2030. To achieve these ambitions, a reliable data basis is essential. Life Cycle Assessments provide a solid basis to measure progress toward these goals and adjust where necessary.
All product life cycle stages are considered when preparing a life cycle assessment. This includes the sourcing of raw materials, production, transportation, use, and disposal of the product. Each of these stages can have different environmental impacts, and therefore it is important to look at the entire supply chain.
