Earth Overshoot Day marks the date when humanitys’ demand for ecological resources and services in a given year exceeds what Earth can regenerate in that year.

The Day is hosted and computed by Global Footprint Network which is an international research organization. It‘s calculated by dividing the planets biocapacity (the amount of ecological resources Earth is able to generate that year), by humanitys Ecological Footprint (the demand of humanity for that year), and multiplying by the number of days in a year.

2020 the day was predicted to be end of July - but due to the pandemic, which led to us wasting a lot less resources in most countries, it lands on August 22. This development clearly shows us the importance of our behavior and although this date is still way too early and it‘s on us to change our behavior for good to #movethedate.

Let us take this change as an inspiration for the future and learn from what our beautiful plant shows us clearly - that we have our future in our own hands! It is on us to decide what kind of environment and climate we want to leave behind.

A way of thinking we at MYMARINI really like is the so called "Seventh Generation Principle". It originates from indigenous people and is based on the principle to take into consideration what a family member from the seventh generation on forward would say to the decision.
